The Battle of the sludge

It's funny how you can walk into a small corner store carrying only fifty cents and come out with only junk food. Not even by choice. Say that you wanted an apple. Well apples are 89 cents a piece, but you can get a bag of chips or Fronions for a quarter. Let's say i had a little bit more cash to spare. If I go Across the street it costs only $3 to get a giant slice of pizza that could feed 3 people. But if I want something healthy like a chicken greek wrap which is filled mostly with lettuce ( the amount of lettuce and fixins in a wrap cost less than a dollar, wrap included) It would cost me nearly $7. See my point?
Studies always talk about how people over eat and constantly eat junk food, and that is the reason this country is so fat. Well If you lived in poverty and only could afford to eat on $10-$20 a week, then your healthy choices are limited. Walmart and Big lots have very cheap food you say? Well have you ever read any of the ingredient tags on those products? Well pretty much every item sold there had some form of hydrogenated corn syrup in it. A lot of foods have that, but that is a key ingrediant to a lot of unhealthy foods. Wonder why they can sell it so cheap? It's not just that it's cheap labor and processing, it's also cheap ingredients. Organic food doesn't have any of the fillers and hydrogenated corn syrups in it at all. It's pure and straight from nature. No processing, no nothing. BUT WHO CAN AFFORD THAT STUFF! Organic food is so damn expensive. You probably don't even know where to find it besides a natural food store, but who can find those! There is an organic food section in every supermarket, but by the time you get to it you've already passed it. but again on top of that, the food is so expensive. Don't get me started on if you have a food related allergy or problem like being Lactose intolerant. I am, and I can only drink soy milk. otherwise i'd curl up in a ball and feel like i'm about to die after drinking a half cup of regular milk. Soy milk is very expensive also. It's like being cursed for your bodies imperfections. kinda like hospital bills for a tree falling on you. Not your fault, but ya still gotta pay!!
Well my point is just that the more healthy you want to eat, the more you have to pay. What it all comes down to is that you have to have money to stay healthy and alive. Sick sad world we live in. I guess it just gives us more reasons to try to be successful... Stay alive a little longer.

Man, I almost puked when I saw that picture! Haha!

Well, here's the thing that keeps me going... Either we pay for the healthy food or we pay in medical bills... Dig?

On top of that, I am a firm believer that if you do what's right for your body, then the universe (others will say God) will take care of you. Not to get all deep and philsophical but, I have always found a way to eat healthy food and not be broke. It can work out.

Not just that... something I discovered... If you keep it simple and just get stuff from the grocery store and make things yourself, then it's easier to manage. If you buy healthy food by going out and doing the gourmet thing, then you will pay through the nose... Just a thought. Btw, soy milk isn't a total essential.

Just my 3 cents on eating healthy in a cost effecient way.

You know who wrote this...

yeah i see where your coming from. I'm just speaking from a very Narrow point of view. it's just what i have notice in the past month Living here on park Ave. About the Soy Milk, it's pretty much the only kind of Milk i can drink. Everything else makes me hurt in some kinda way. it's wierd. but i see ur points.

It always amazed me the radical points of views about this subject, at least in your country. I haven't seen such a debate here, i think it's because we have a more balanced diet. It's been said that mediterranean food is one of the healthiest diet. Maybe that's why people here are not that worried about what they eat, if it's processed or not.
Another thing that changes the point of view is the free medical insurance... that is something to think about.
It has to be a shame to not be able to have milk. Not that i like it so much, but the fact that you have to be careful with it, you know.

Have you tried almond milk, oat milk, or rice milk?
I know you've tried the oat milk but does that affect you adversely too? Soy milk probably has a richer taste than the other three.

I was never a big milk drinker anyway. I'm pretty much allregic to it and many people are. More and more people are finding out the fallacies of dairy intake anyway. That's why soy milk is so widely available now.

About the dieting in other countries... It's true that there is a more balanced approach to dieting and that there aren't as many problems found overseas as there are in the US. However, there are still issues that can be corrected with some of these ways of thought. For example, my father told me that the Japanese men have the highest rate of stomach cancer. This came up in a discussion about sushi. Although sushi just means flavored rice. It doesn't mean raw fish, although, there is raw fish involved in some of this. This could be a result of the practice of eatig raw fish... Maybe this could be the habit of having a rice heavy diet.

I just brought up that point to say that america has enormous problems when it comes to dieting. It's all resulted from what's advertised to make a dollar. People still find it hard to believe that dairy isn't a dietary essential. That's only because we're conditioned and the business makes their profit.
(The milk gives you strong bones b.s.) Funny that medical insurance was mentioned. That's another big money making industry... one hand washes the other basically.

The thing that atonishes me the most is that we are so quick to believe what's advertised and what "studies" or "doctors" have shown to tell us what's good and bad for us. However, we never took the time to experiment with our own bodies and find and figure what's good and what works for us individually. Your body is the best guide you have... it will tell you if it likes what you're doing to it or not.
Wether if it's a subtle sign or a huge allergic reaction.
